WARNING !!!
POSSIBLE GROSS AMOUNTS OF “TMI”
You have been warned…..
Had the Urolift procedure done last Wednesday.
So far, so good.
Some of the side effects of the surgery are:
Constant feeling of needing to urinate
Feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
Frequent urination
Which all sound like the reason for the procedure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, these should be temporary. (I am writing this less than 24 hours after the procedure)
The procedure was quick (as far as I know). I was rolled into the OR, the anesthesiologist shot something into my hand and I woke up in the recovery room. The good news (for me) was that this was not general anesthesia, but IV sedation. The last time I had any anesthesia was almost 30 years ago for my back surgery. All medical procedures have risks and there is a certain percentage of people that do not recover from anesthesia. I am not a fan of surgeries unless they are life saving or life changing. For me, the risk vs. reward here was acceptable.
Sidebar: When I had my back surgery, I was talking to the anesthesiologist while he was prepping me and asking him questions about what he was doing (because I was curious) and he played along and gave me step by step of what he was doing. When he gave me the first shot, I asked him what was in it and he told me, then I asked if it worked quickly and he said “yes, if it doesn’t, I’ll give some more” at which point I was tripping balls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Recovery was much better and quicker than having general. There was generally no real pain, just discomfort from the catheter. A LOT of immediate discomfort with urinating !! I was prescribed Phenazopyridine which relives almost all of the discomfort. It also turns your urine dark orange and looks really weird mixed with blood !!!
The bleeding stopped by the next morning. YEAH !!!
No less than 5 ladies saw my penis that new. New personal record….
Thursday:
I was completely prepared to go to work the day after, but the DR. said “NOPE!!” which was a good call. Not only did I feel like I had a hangover form the anesthesia, the antibiotic hit hard and I couldn’t be too far away from the bathroom. Had I known, I would have taken a vacation week after this.
Friday:
Went to work, yeah, wished I would have stayed home but not too bad. Still a bit of discomfort urinating but not bad. Good news is that I’m off until next Wednesday and hopefully the good parts of the surgery will be settling in.
I’m still.having a few aftereffects from having my chest cracked open. 11 weeks ago.
An avid reader before surgery. Struggling to get back into it!
FIL had his done like 25 years ago and it was a slow recovery. Hope I can avoid that serious of medical work !!. Good family history of hearts…
Wishing you a speedy recovery, take your time.
Thanks !
Doing pretty well so far !!!
