Naperville Invests In Green Nonsense

UPDATE :::

I have been told that the Congresswomen asked for and received a $4,000,000 grant for the first  year of operation and that it will cost $3,800,000 for the second year of operation.

Once the system is inspected on Dec. 14 and activated, a “gasifier” will heat yard and brush waste in an oxygen-free environment and convert it into a gas. That gas can then be processed through a generator set to produce electricity or be converted to ethanol using a process being developed at Argonne. The gasifier also produces hydrogen gas, which can be used as a fuel in itself.

The system produces about 15 kilowatts of electric power, enough to run about 12 suburban homes. Some of this power is used to keep the system operational. The remainder can be used as electricity for plug-in hybrid vehicles, or it can be supplied back to the Naperville grid.

Ok, it says that 15 kilowatts can run about 12 homes.

I live in a 900 square foot home and it has gas heating,  a gas stove and a gas water heater.

My main electrical users are: refrigerator, lighting, microwave and television.

For the past two years, I have averaged just under 13 kwh per day!!!

So when they say that 15 kw can “run about 12 homes”, what does that really mean?

“Everything runs cleaner off electricity, hydrogen or ethanol,” said Councilman Robert Fieseler, adding that “if a unit like this takes off, it’s a farm-scale operation for other municipalities as well. It means jobs.”

Everything runs cleaner?? So what?? Are you factoring in the amount of fuel used to get the waste to the plant??

The amount of pollution being saved would be almost negligible and is NOT the reason to have these wasteful and useless green fantasies (paid for by the taxpayers)

“if a unit like this takes off…….. it means jobs”

BWAHAHAHA !!

If I had a nickle for every time that was said by a Greenie, I’d be rich !!!

“We believe the long-term goal for Packer Engineering, with the success of this system, is to generate jobs. They’ll be able to create jobs for the manufacturing of the systems and the support and the service as they sell them all over the world,” Miller said. “So it’s a great opportunity to eliminate yard waste and create jobs of all types.”

YAWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I notice missing from this story is how much the taxpayers are taking it in the shorts for.

UPDATE :

I did a little more searching and found this:

http://www.naperville.il.us/greenfuelsdepot.aspx#Introduction

Who is paying for the project?
Primary funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy through a Congressionally Directed Project at the request of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (IL 13th). Packer Engineering and the City of Naperville are also providing a modest amount of non-cash contributions to the overall project. These non-cash contributions include the temporary use of land and buildings for the project, plus time and effort on the part of salaried employees.

Yep !!!

Being paid for by PORK  SPENDING!

I can almost declare that this project is not economically feasible.

The City of Naperville is providing a “modest” amount……. on the part of salaried employees.

Without a dollar amount being provided,  “modest” is rather subjective.

And of course, here is the punchline to the joke:

What kind of gases will be released by the Green Fuels Depot?

Only water vapor and carbon dioxide are released to the atmosphere. The water vapor may appear white on cold days. The white vapor is not smoke, it is what comes out of a tea kettle. The carbon dioxide (chemical formula CO2) is colorless, just as the exhaust of your automobile is colorless if running properly. Because plants grow by absorbing carbon dioxide, the CO2 released by the Green Fuels Depot merely replaces it in the atmosphere, where growing plants can absorb it again. This is the natural carbon cycle of our atmosphere.

I am not going to even try to explain how funny that statement is !!!!
